Cut through the red tape


Kinesio tape is purported to do some amazing things, including increase blood flow, strengthen weak muscles, decrease pain, increase proprioception and reposition joints. Some bodybuilders swear by it. A recent study from Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo) tested a claim of Kinesio tape that would be of interest to bodybuilders--greater blood flow to muscles. They compared Kinesio and plain athletic brands by taping it to the biceps of subjects who then performed three sets of biceps curls for 10 reps each set. They reported that not only did the Kinesio tape not increase blood flow to the biceps, but it actually decreased blood flow! The take-home point is to stick with nitric oxide-boosting supplements like arginine to increase blood flow during workouts.
